KITAS Residence Permits in Indonesia

KITAS residence permit assistance in Indonesia: Forever Legality helps you review work, investment and family residence options and prepare the documents required for your circumstances. KITAS commonly refers to a limited stay permit; the official term is ITAS (Izin Tinggal Terbatas). Requirements depend on the category, and the decision rests with Indonesian immigration.

Work, investor and family KITAS

  • Work: the official immigration visa list includes work categories in the E23 family. Conditions depend on the role, sponsor and required permits.
  • Investment: investor categories appear in the E28 family. Owning a PT PMA does not automatically qualify you for a residence permit; requirements depend on the category and investment.
  • Family: family reunification categories, including E31 categories, depend on the relationship, sponsor’s status and supporting documents.

The immigration explanation of ITAS describes a permit granted for a specific purpose and period under the applicable rules. Do not assume all KITAS permits last two years or provide the same permission to work.

How we review a KITAS application

  1. Identify your reason for residing in Indonesia and the activities you intend to undertake.
  2. Review the appropriate category, sponsor and documents using the official immigration portal.
  3. Organise the documents and explain which steps depend on the authorities, employer, company or sponsor.
  4. After a decision, review the permit’s duration, conditions and any applicable renewal deadlines.

Information for an initial discussion

Tell us your passport nationality, purpose of stay, expected duration and whether you have an employer, company or family sponsor in Indonesia. Once the category is identified, we explain the official document requirements. Agree on a secure communication channel before sending passport images or sensitive personal information.

Documents, fees and service scope

We start with your purpose and whether you are currently inside or outside Indonesia, then review the category’s checklist. Initial preparation may include your passport, existing immigration document if any, sponsor or company details and documents supporting your purpose. The final checklist and passport validity requirements come from the applicable official procedure.

Government charges and assistance fees are explained separately. Before agreeing to the service, clarify the work included, documents you must provide and steps requiring your employer, sponsor or personal attendance. Study and other available residence categories require their own review. There is no guaranteed approval or single processing period for every category.

A short visit or a residence permit?

For a short visit, review our Indonesia visa services. Investors can also review PT PMA company formation before choosing a residence category. Do not select a route based on cost alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does establishing a PT PMA automatically provide KITAS?

No. Company formation and an investor residence application are separate procedures. Immigration category requirements and the authorities’ decision still apply.

How long does processing take and what does it cost?

Processing times, government charges and service fees vary by category, documentation and the authority handling the application. We explain an estimate and the service scope after reviewing the case; a fixed issue date cannot be guaranteed.

After your residence permit is issued

Check your name, passport number, sponsor, category, expiry, entry conditions and permitted activities. Record renewal deadlines and report changes that require updates under immigration instructions. Investor residence does not permit every job, and family residence is not automatically equivalent to a work permit.
